During the Greek revolution, the battles around Naoussa were sensational, until the city fell on April 10, 1822 and the Turks completely destroyed it.
The last defenders were killed in the tower of Zafirakis and the women and children preferred to fall from the waterfall of Arapitsa rather than fall into the hands of the Turks.
For this sacrifice, Naoussa was later declared a heroic city next to Messolongi, Souli and Arkadi.
