The Rodini Park is probably the oldest park in the world, and it is located along the Rhodes - Lindos route, about three kilometers from the old town and the center. It has two entrances and the visitor can also cross it by car by entering from the second entrance.
It is a valley with running water, ponds with water lilies and dense vegetation of plane trees and many rhododendrons which during the flowering period create the perfect picture.
The many paths offer unique walks. After entering we can see and feed the beautiful deer, symbol of the island, in a small zoo surrounded by roses.
Rodini has a history that is lost in the centuries....According to tradition, the famous school of rhetoric of Aeschines was located here. But it was also a place of worship with several buildings with vaulted ceilings with niches for placing statues.
Ptolemy, the family tomb dedicated to Ptolemy I is located in the Necropolis of Rhodes, an ancient cemetery dating back to the 4th century BC. Rodini is considered a typical example of Hellenistic landscape architecture, as they used to be built during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC.
But its history continues in the era of the John Knights who used it as a garden of the Grand Master's mansion. If you go to Rhodes go and you will feel together with the rustling of the plane trees and the gurgling of the waters this passage of centuries....
