FOLKLORE MUSEUM OF MELANA - Arcadia

Just after Tyros, at a distance of 4 km, is the beautiful and typical Tsakonian village of Pera Melana. The picturesque village consists of two neighborhoods, a lower one, which gathers most of the houses, and a smaller, higher one, the "outside neighborhood".
Built on the slope of Mount Parnon, with houses that follow the characteristic local austere architecture, the village is a surprise for the visitor. At the same time, it is the village that largely preserves the Tsakonian tradition, as well as the Tsakonian dialect. Most residents speak Tsakonic.
The folklore museum is a creation of the cultural association Pera Melano, and is housed in the renovated building of the association in Pera Melano, Kynouria.
It includes local Tsakonian costumes, local textiles, the famous Tsakonian tagaria that were made with special skill in the village, typical local clothing, photographic material, etc. The collection is constantly enriched and aspires to be the place par excellence for the promotion of Tsakonian tradition.
