The Archaeological Museum of Mycenae, which has been operating since July 2003, hosts in its exhibition spaces findings from all periods of use, both of the area of ​​Mycenae and of the surrounding settlements.
The museum, built near the acropolis, is implicitly connected to it through a network of accesses, enabling visitors to have a complete picture of the use and operation of the building and burial complexes. The exhibition is organized into thematic groups and the findings are divided into four sections, while the antechamber of the Museum is dominated by the model of the acropolis, which is framed by rich visual material, where the myths of Mycenae, the history of the excavations and the first depictions of the monuments by tourists.
In the first room of the museum, findings from residential complexes, workshops, worship and storage spaces inside and outside the acropolis are presented, among which the wall paintings and clay idols of the Religious Center stand out. In the second room, finds are exhibited from the numerous cemeteries of chamber tombs that have been found in the area and from Burial Cycle B, as well as copies from Burial Cycle A. In the third room, findings from monumental ensembles of historical times are presented, among which are of particular interest they have the dedications of the sanctuaries of Ares and Agamemnon. The exhibition closes with the thematic section of the achievements of the Mycenaean civilization, where aspects of Mycenaean society such as trade, religion, art and writing are displayed through the finds.
