At the end of the 19th century, water-powered textile factories were established in Edessa by Naoussa Greek businessmen.
A total of six water-powered units were established, the first being the Tsitsis and Co. spinning mill in 1895, of which only traces of its original facilities remain.
This was followed by the "Association of Industrial Enterprises Estia AE" with two industrial units in 1907 and 1926, the hemp plant of the Totska Company in 1908 and the hemp plant of the Apostolos and Spyridonidis brothers in 1930. The latter was founded during the period 1929-1930 the Sefertzi brothers' plant. - Kokkinou which was one of the most important factories in the Balkans.
All these industrial units flourished during the interwar period. But due to problems that occurred in the late 1950s, the hydro-powered factories were closed for good in 1962.
At the Outdoor Water Museum, in Kannabourgiou, the visitor learns about the way ropes were made in the past with the power of water.
The Open Air Museum of Water, where you will be able to see the Kanavourgeio up close, is located between the Waterfall Park and the Varosi district in Edessa.
