The history of wine and the life of the Santorini winegrower from the 17th to the 20th century is captured in a special way by the only underground Wine Museum in Greece, which is located in the Vothona area, on the road to Kamari.
The museum is housed in the same space as the Volcan Wines winery, in a building that combines traditional aesthetics with functional infrastructure, and is under the care and supervision of its current owner, George Koutsogiannopoulos.
It is located 6 meters underground and stretches 300 meters long. Throughout the route there are representations with movable and stationary figures, thus giving a vivid picture of the wine-growing activity in Santorini, from 1660 to 1970. In addition, through an automatic personal tour you will be clearly given all the necessary information about the winery of the island. Along the entire length of the cave museum there is a wealth of photographic material and newspaper clippings from earlier times that refer to the viticulture of Santorini. You'll also see old artifacts on display, such as tools used to make barrels and baskets, as well as household utensils.
Every Friday a Santorini party is organized in the event space of the winery.
