ECCLESIASTICAL MUSEUM OF CHORIO

ECCLESIASTICAL MUSEUM OF CHORIO - Symi

It is located in the settlement of Chorio or Ano Symi. It is co-located with the Archaeological and Folklore Museum in an 18th century mansion, which is a donation of the Farmakidis family to the Greek state. It is a building complex formed on 3 levels with various rooms, courtyards and gardens. The Byzantine Collection includes sacred relics from monasteries and temples of the island that outline the ecclesiastical history of the place. Among the most important exhibits are: post-Byzantine icons, handwritten codes of Byzantine music by Timios Stavros (17th-18th century), handwritten book of exhortations (17th-18th century), epitaph of Saint Athanasius, photographs of frescoes from the Monasteries of Megalou Sotiris (1723), Prophet Ilias (1734) and Roukouniotis (1738) etc.
