The catholicon, founded by the "protostater and catholic mediator" of the Despotate of Moreos Ioannis Fragopoulos, belongs to the so-called mixed type of Mystras. In the arch of the Sanctuary and the bell tower, influences from western standards are evident. A painting of exceptional Paleologian art (d. 1428) adorns the higher parts of the church, while post-Byzantine frescoes are preserved in the lower parts.
