It is located 9 km northeast of the town of Serres, in a ravine of Mount Menoiki. It was built in 1270 AD and consists of a complex of buildings of particular interest. In the area of the church are the tombs of the founder of the Ioannikiou Monastery and the first after the fall of Constantinople, Patriarch Gennadius the Scholar. The frescoes of the 14th century, as well as the works of Manuel Panselinos, are admired. The visitor can be guided by the nuns to the museum and the olive press.
