The women's Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos (or Pangaiotissa) is located near the village of Hortokopi, at the top of Mount Pangaio. Here was found the holy icon of the Virgin Mary brought from Asia Minor by the Greek refugees. The Monastery was built in 1978 under Metropolitan Ambrosios of Eleftheroupolis. The monastery complex includes the church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, precinct, two-story guest houses and cells with arches, kitchen and auxiliary areas, workshops. The church, cruciform with an imposing dome and columns with Byzantine-style capitals, bears a wooden gilded iconostasis. The Monastery celebrates on August 15.
