It was probably built in the 17th century.
The monastery had an active participation in the Macedonian Struggle. In fact, Pavlos Melas praises, in his letter, Abbot Grigorios for his hospitality and the reception he reserved for him in 1904, when he was there to escape from his persecutors.
It was set on fire by the Bulgarians on February 26, 1905, when about eighty men invaded the monastery, looted it and set fire to the monks' cells.
Since 1963 it has been operating again, this time as a nunnery.
