The monastery of Prophet Ilias of Psilos is located southwest of the village of Katavati, at a distance of two hours on foot. It is the most important Byzantine monument of Sifnos. It was built in the 8th century, but since 1873 it has been abandoned. The architecture of the monastery is impressive, it includes a wall, cells and underground arcades that were hiding places for the monastery's treasures when it faced raids.
