The Dormition Monastery (10th century), a monastery intertwined with the history of the island, whose cells were a refuge for refugees from the Peloponnese and the neighboring islands during the Revolution of 1821. Together with the few houses in the surrounding area of the monastery, it was formed formerly a residential refugee core called Panagia (4 km. from Chora). Today the monastery is famous for the three-day festival during the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (August 15) with characteristic customs of offering food and "fights" with wooden sticks between men, for the conquest of the most beautiful woman.
