The Monastery of Agios Georgios Xeron Xylon is one of the numerous monasteries that were founded in the late Venetian period in the area of Merabelo. The oldest mention of it is found in a document of 1635. In 1912, as an inscription on its roof states, the dome church of Agios Georgios was built, in the shape of the free cross that was absent from the monastic architecture of the area and differentiates the Xero Xylon complex noticeably and aesthetically from the rest. The oldest church, which was small and had one room, was built in the 17th century (late Venetian rule) by Ioannis Fouskis.
