On a plateau of Asterousia is the men's Monastery of Apezanon. According to a view that is considered the most prevalent, the Monastery was founded in 1458. The Papadopoulos brothers from Handakas are mentioned as the founders or renovators of the Monastery. Although as it is said there was a document protecting the Monastery from the Turks, this was violated and the monastery was given over to the fire in 1827 along with various ecclesiastical relics. The revolution of 1866-69 came to complete the earlier disaster. It is honored in the name of Saint Anthony.
