The monastery is located at the exit of the Arvi gorge and possibly on the site of the former sanctuary of Arvios Zeus. Today it is abandoned.
It is assumed that it was founded around 1880 by the monk Artemios. The story says that Artemios initially chose as a site for the Monastery the exit of the gorge of Arvi, a point that probably coincides with the location of the former sanctuary of Arbius Zeus. The Monastery experienced moments of great prosperity in the past and, according to the testimonies of locals, it was one of the most famous in the area.
