In the village of Athani, near the lighthouse of Lefkata, the men's Monastery of Agios Nikolaos (Niras Athaniou) is built. Its foundation dates back to 1637 (or even earlier). The monastery was built by 7 families who then allocated their properties to it. The last ascetic monk died in 1949. The present church, rectangular with a sloping roof, is later than the foundation of the Monastery. The iconostasis with the icons was created in 1799. The 13 icons of the Twelve and the 3 despots were painted with egg tempera on a board by Andreas Bezzo. The despotic icon of Agios Nikolaos (1699) is attributed to the iconographer Dimitrios Foskaris. It is the oldest, signed, dated portable icon of Lefkada, which was stolen and recovered in 1979 badly worn. Apart from the temple, one-story buildings of unknown use can be seen in the area.
