On the plain of Karia is built the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos, also known as "Ai Giannis in Livadi". It was founded in 1605. At the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery was the richest on the island and already owned about 15 shares. It is said that the charioteer Simos Boas (or Grivas) was buried in the sanctuary of the church in 1622. The monastic complex includes the church of St. John the Baptist and two-story buildings that are now in ruins. The church is single-aisled, with a wooden roof and a gynekonite. On the north wall, frescoes dating from 1736 to 1753 are preserved. They are arranged in three zones, in the first full-length saints are depicted, in the middle busts of saints and in the upper zone large representations of various figures. On the western wall, Saint Constantine, Saint Helen and the Archangel Michael are recognized.
