At the foot of the Attavyros mountain range, near the village of Laermon and at an altitude of 380 m, dominates the men's Monastery of Agios Ioannis Theologus (Artamitis). It is said that she got her name from the mountain "Artamition" of Attavyro. In this place there is a Sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Artemis (4th - 3rd BC). The Monastery was built in the 9th AD. h. on the site of an earlier temple and was famous for its excellent Library, sacred relics and the large property it possessed. The monastery was repeatedly looted, the Library was destroyed and finally during the Turkish occupation it was deserted. It suffered more significant looting by Andronikos Palaiologos in the middle of the 13th century. As appears from the Patriarchal Codes, he was a sharer of the Royal and Patriarchal Monastery of Patmos. In the Monastery, the single aisle can be seen today, vaulted church of St. John the Theologian (1859), cells (1862), guest houses, water mills, an olive press and various auxiliary spaces that were rebuilt by Abbot Cyril of Lindios in the 19th century. The church has an elaborate wood-carved iconostasis (1870) with recent hagiographies, while the starry sky is represented on the ceiling. It celebrates on May 8 and September 26.
