CULTURAL
Zakynthos did not experience Turkish rule, but was for centuries under the rule of the Venetians, the English and the French, as a result of which it came into direct contact with European culture and developed significant intellectual activity, which is evident in music, painting, literature and theater. From very early on, from the 17th century already, there are plays in Zakynthos ("Speeches"), the "Comedy of the Pseudo-doctors" (18th century).

ZAKYNTHOS AND MUSIC
Zakynthos has always had a close relationship with music, which is evident throughout the development of its history. In 1816, the first Philharmonic Society in Greece was founded, an element that shows the immense love of Zakynthians for music. Today the choir "To Fioro tou Levante" contributes to the preservation and dissemination of choral singing and consists of experienced choristers. The mandolin has been a symbol of the musical entertainment of Zakynthos and to this day it dominates many events of their daily life.
