Near the village of Agios Ioannis Kynourias, at a distance of 2 kilometers from the highway at the top of a hill at the location "Xirokambi" are preserved the ruins of the Castle of Oria, a famous medieval castle built during the Frankish period.
According to tradition, the castle belonged to a brave and beautiful noblewoman of the Franks, who fought the Turks from it for 12 years.
When the castle was finally taken by treachery, (the castle gate was opened by a young man disguised as a monk, who agreed to do so in exchange for the beautiful noblewoman as a prize) the noblewoman jumped from the walls into the void to avoid capture by the enemies.
This story is told by the well-known folk song. From the castle, remains of the fortifications, the gates and a tower are preserved.
