At Paralio Astros and on the southern top of the hill (which the locals call "the island") which dominates the port, there are castle ruins from the time of the Frankish occupation. In the later years of the Turkish occupation, the castle was transformed into a strong defensive complex. It has a four-sided plan and preserves a large part of the fortified enclosure and one of its fortified towers. Two outer gates of the castle are also preserved.
In the 18th century, three brothers, wealthy merchants abroad, returned to their homeland to fight against the Turks and built three residences on the castle site, shaping its interior at the same time. These houses are characteristic examples of the pre-revolutionary architecture of the area and are preserved to this day, the first two in a semi-ruined state and the third in a dilapidated state.
Parts of a wall from classical times can be seen on an adjacent hill. According to the prevailing opinion, it is a fortification wall that the Aeginites who settled in the area started to build, but eventually left it unfinished. A path leads to this point.
The castle grounds can be visited all year round.
