Archaeological findings (Archangelos, Kerami site): The earliest findings date back to 1100 BC. The wider area was famous for its wine and the shipbuilding art of its inhabitants at least since the 7th century BC. The archaeological remains testify that the inhabitants gradually abandoned the shore and moved inland for safety. The ancient Pontorean Municipality (DAMOS PONTORION) included Archangelos.
Knight's castle (Archangelos, 1455 - 1474): Must have been built or rebuilt in the 15th century. by Grand Master Demilly, as mentioned in a knightly decree.
