KASTELLI CASTLE

KASTELLI CASTLE - Kos

Kastelli is called a rocky hill and apparently got that name from a small fortification project. It is a knightly watchtower or advanced outpost dating back to the second half of the 15th century.

It was used for about 100 years, i.e. from the start of the fiercest Turkish attacks until the occupation of the island by the Turks. The gate, two cannon holes, an archway and some water cisterns inside the walls, made of irregularly placed stones, have been identified.
