Kastelli is located on the Aspropoundari cape which you will find on the left of the road from Masouri to Arginotas.
It is a Byzantine fortress, built on the rocky hill of Cape Aspropoundari. It was created to be able to protect the sandy island of Kalymnos, but also the Byzantine State, from the sea raids of the Arabs during the 7th century AD.
The many ruins of buildings, which exist within the walls, show that Kastelli was a small fortified settlement. Its strategic position can also be seen from the visual contact it has with the contemporary fortified settlements of Galatiani and Agios Konstantinos.
The fort was probably inhabited until the 10th century.
