City of ancient Visaltia. Perhaps it was founded by Ionians, inhabitants of neighboring Argylos. According to the excavation findings, it was destroyed in the Hellenistic years (3rd century BC) by raids by Thracians and Gauls and abandoned. Its oldest core (from the end of the 6th century BC) is located on top of a hill, about 2 km NW. from the village of Aidonochori. From the excavated remains, the ancient rectangular building C stands out, perhaps with religious use. An archaic cemetery (6th century BC) with important categories of local pottery and metalwork was also investigated.
