The sanctuary of the local god Darron was discovered in the SW part of the ancient city of Pella, in the area of the modern irrigation canal, in the immediate vicinity of a monumental road of the ancient city, which led from the port to its center.
In the sanctuary of Darron, the excavation revealed large outdoor spaces, tanks, wells, a fountain, a small temple as well as laboratory and storage areas.
The discovery of a votive inscription of the first half of the 2nd century. BC, with the name of the local healer god, DARRON, identifies the complex with his place of worship. It is the first epigraphic evidence with the name of the god, who is mentioned by Hesychius as a healing god. The neighboring complexes are also related to the worship of the god, a circular building, which is probably associated with the exercise of hero worship according to the model of the sanctuary of Asclepius in Epidaurus and a restaurant, which served the pilgrims of the sanctuary.
