In Chora, the fortified citadel of the ancient city of Ioulidas, one of the four cities of ancient Kea, is preserved, as well as part of its wall. Hometown of the famous lyric poet Simonides, the sophist Prodikos and the doctor Erasistratus. A lion carved into the shale rock probably marks a cenotaph, it is from the Archaic period, around 600 BC.
It is known as the Leo of Kea or Ioulida, it is a representative work of plastic arts of Kea and is considered the symbol of the island.
Also in Chora, a part of the Venetian castle of the 13th century is preserved.
