There have been no excavations or archaeological researches on the island, however, from the previous centuries, ancient relics are still visible today. In today's capital Chora, on the Paleokastro hill, there are still remains that attest to the position of an ancient acropolis. In the modern cemetery, lower down, a section of wall from the 4th c. BC. integrated into newer walls, while in the same area ancient building material is observed and pieces of ancient sculptures are preserved. Ancient building material and fragments of sculptures have also been used in the medieval Castle of Chora. Inscribed statue bases have been preserved in the church of Panagia which dominates Chora. It is considered the site of a temple dedicated to Artemis and Apollo. In the Chrysospilia Cave, Roman cisterns, a lot of pottery, elements of phallic worship and a number of adolescent inscriptions, dating from the 4th c. BC
