Mesara Plain
Many vaulted tombs, usually built in pairs, have been excavated and date to the 3rd millennium BC. The architecture of these tombs shows a good knowledge of vaulted structures and the richness of the offerings (seals, vases, jewelry, tools) shows that the dead belonged to the upper class of the Minoan society that was then beginning to take shape.
