Holy Triad

Important Minoan center. The area was inhabited from the latest Neolithic era (5th millennium BC). Two vaulted tombs and remains of houses from the Proto-Minoan era, on which a palatial mansion built around 1600 BC was built. and was destroyed around 1450 BC. The main apartments in the NW. section had tiled floors, multi-doors, frescoed walls, desks and many important finds (copper talents, sealings and luxury items). To the east of the complex were warehouses and residences, in the southern courtyard an outdoor sacred space and to the north, a stepped paved road. To the east, a road started in the direction of Phaistos.

In the post-palatial era (1450 - 1100 BC) a "market" and an extensive settlement were established in the NE. of the palace, while later a Mycenaean palace was built. In the late Minoan cemetery of Agia Triada was found the famous sarcophagus decorated with religious representations (circa 1400 BC)

The findings are exhibited in the Heraklion Museum. Outdoor sanctuary 11th - 10th c. BC in Piazzale dei Sacelli. A small sanctuary with an enclosure, a temple and an altar from Hellenistic times dedicated to the Cretan god Velkhanos, often identified with Zeus. Roman farmhouses and workshops.
