In the center of the city of Lefkada, the foundations of a house from the 1st half of the 6th century BC were discovered. century. The house has a rectangular floor plan (63 sq.m.), dimensions 14X4.50 m., with 3 rooms. The masonry consisted of rough bricks, with stone-built foundations while the roof was covered with reeds. The buildings did not face the street in order to protect the privacy of the residents. The stone foundations of the house and the separation of the rooms can be seen in the excavation area.
In classical times, there was an elongated courtyard with a well in the center of the house. The dimensions (13 widthX14 length) and the area (180 sq.m.) of the house were larger and there were 6-7 rooms around the courtyard. The most important room was the manor (where banquets were held) at the front of the house.
