The Sanctuary of Artemis, or Artemision, was built on the edge of the rocky mass that descends towards the sea from the Acropolis of the city. In the excavations, excellent quality ceramics and votive offerings (mainly figurines) were found in depositors, the oldest of which date to the first half of the 7th century BC.
The building remains of the sanctuary are spread over two platforms and are very damaged. They include the foundations of a monumental altar located on the lower plateau and which was built in the late 6th - early 5th c. BC Also the preserved ruins of the sanctuary include a group of bases located southeast of the sanctuary and intended to place on them honorary marble statues and hadrians of important families of Thassos. The square enclosure was built in Hellenistic times and repaired in the 2nd century BC.
