West of Chora of the island, in the Limniotissa area is the early Christian basilica of "Christ of Jerusalem". The three-aisled basilica occupies part of the temple of Dilio Apollonos (10th century AD-4th AD), a sanctuary that was the political and religious center of ancient Kalymnos. The sanctuary was destroyed with the rise of Christianity. In the 5th AD the basilica was built, which was destroyed in the middle of the 6th century. from an earthquake. In the 7th century abandoned due to Arab raids. It is said that the temple was built by Saint Helen or Arcadius on their return from Jerusalem. The excavations brought to light only the eastern part of the basilica. Architectural members from the buildings of the temple of Dilio Apollo have been used as building material. The arch of the sacred step is preserved in its entire height.
