Kythnos is also called Thermia because of its hot thermal springs. In Loutra, which is 11 kilometers from the port, there are thermal springs which are the only ones in the Cyclades that gush sulphurous, saline and ferruginous waters. There are two hot springs on the island, one is located inside a hydrotherapy center with a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and the second is located 50 meters away with a temperature of 52 degrees Celsius.
In the carved marble bathers of the Baths, the first kings of the younger Greek state, Othona and Amalia, had tested the beneficial effect of the thermal baths. These sources are recommended for rheumatism, back pain, sciatica, spondyloarthritis and gynecological diseases.
