GATTILUZI TOWERS - Samothrace

After the conquest of Constantinople by the Franks in 1204, Samothraki fell into the hands of the Venetians. During the 15th century, the island came under the Frankish family of Gattilusi. The Gatiluzi ruled Samothrace in the period 1430 - 1455.

Then the Gatiluzi towers were built on the island. Two of these towers are located a little east of Paleopolis, next to the sea. One of them is preserved in its entire height, while relics are preserved from the second. There was also a third tower, while material from ancient buildings was used to build this fortress complex.
