The Folklore Museum of Xanthi is located in the Old Town and is housed in the Kouyoumtzoglou mansion near the Metropolis Square. It is one of the most representative examples of a specific typology of houses, which began to be built in the city of Xanthi in the last period of the Turkish rule, from 1830 onwards. The specific building, which consists of two identical houses, was built, according to oral testimonies, from 1860 to 1862, while by 1866 its frescoes by Xanthios and Bavarian artists were also completed.
The Museum's collection includes exhibits from the heyday of Xanthi's urban life as well as exhibits that characterize the daily life of the rural residents.
