FOLKLORE MUSEUM OF ORESTIADA - Evros

The Historical and Folklore Museum of Nea Orestiada belongs to the Educational Association "Museum of Folklore and Art History of Orestiada and the Region" and was founded in 1974.

The Museum includes the following sections in its exhibition spaces:

  • Recent history of the region, with an excerpt from the Treaty of Lausanne of 1922, according to which the Greek Christians, residents of Eastern Thrace, were uprooted.
  • Various agricultural tools
  • Various women's and men's costumes in natural colors, decorated with embroidery.
  • Various kitchen utensils, metal and wood.
  • Traditional Thracian bed room for hosting guests
  • Ecclesiastical sacred vessels, brought from the church of Agioi Theodoros of Palaia Orestiada
  • Various traditional musical instruments of the region (flogeres, kavalo, askaulo, seistro, clarinet, oud).
