MUSEUM OF LAKE CULTURE OF KANALIA - Pelion

The Museum of Lake Culture is located in the Kanalia settlement of the Municipality of Karla, 25 km northwest of Volos. It has been operating since 2005 in a building that used to be a cinema. The Museum owns a number of Photographic Collections such as that of Dimitris Letsios from Volio who records the life of the swamp, Takis Tloupas from Larissa, who depicts the life of fishermen, Voula Papaioannou who captures events of the Second World War and the Civil War, from Volio Nikos Tsogas who captures the struggle of the property owners in 1983. There is also a Collection of photographs by unknown photographers as well as the Archive of L. Hatzizisis where the musical tradition of the place is depicted. The Museum exhibits a replica of a Lake Karla hut, photographic material and models of the Lake as well as various objects and tools of the lake culture.
