FOLKLORE MUSEUM OF VELION - Laconia

The Folklore Museum of Velia was founded by the Association of Veliots from all over the world of Laconia "Agia Paraskevi". The construction of the building started in June 2004 and was completed in 2007. The museum is located next to the centuries-old plane tree and the old fountain of Velia, which are monuments and symbols for the village and are closely linked to its history. Along with the construction of the museum building, the Association proceeded with the maintenance of the fountain and the renovation of the surrounding area. This space, combined with the platform and the tiers of the museum's roof, is ideal for holding cultural events. The old fountain, which once flowed non-stop crystal water from its five taps, is also mentioned by the poet Yannis Ritsos, who spent his summers in Velies as a child.

The opening of the Folklore Museum of Velia took place on May 16, 2010 and since then it has been available to local and foreign visitors. In the museum, the visitor can see a multitude of household and agricultural objects, old photographs, clothing, embroidery, handicrafts, textiles and many other interesting objects that refer to past times and aim to save the cultural heritage and traditional image of the village.
