The Mikis Theodorakis International Center "The Museum" was created in order to honor the musician, the composer, the man who loved Zatouna, the Zatounites and all Greeks, Mikis Theodorakis.
It is located in the picturesque village of Zatuna (4 km. west of Dimitsana)
It is housed in the old stone Primary School of Zatuna, where the young students learned their first letters, read their first words and dreamed about life.
The school is located in the central square, opposite the stone-built Church of the Assumption (Panagia Elovitissa), which was built in 1853.
At the same time, the Museum aims to preserve the symbolism inherent in Zatuna, the exile, the displaced, although imprisoned, still thinks freely, is inspired and creates monumental works, which keep the message of freedom unquenchable, passing it on to the next generations and motivate them to fruitful interventions in the important social issues of our time.
In the museum you will see various documents about the life of the Great Greek creator Mikis Theodorakis. The space extends over five rooms, has modern audio-visual equipment, the books of the great composer, his music, his personal items, items from his life in exile in Zatuna.
As is well known, during the junta Mikis Theodorakis spent 14 months in exile in Zatuna, guarded by gendarmes, where with a thousand efforts he managed to bring his family and his piano and where he composed a cycle of songs entitled ARKADIAS, writing himself and the lyrics.
