The Kilkis Military Museum began operating in 1966. It is located 1 km from the city, on the hill where the deadly Battle of Kilkis took place (June 19-21, 1913) between the Greek and Bulgarian armies during the Second Balkan War and it is the oldest museum founded by the General Staff of the Army. In the same area there is a Hero of the fallen and busts of hero officers. Among the most important exhibits are the flags of the military formations (divisions and regiments) that took part in the Balkan Wars and the personal belongings of colonel Antonios Kampanis, who fell fighting. Also on display are armaments, medals and decorations of the Greek and Bulgarian army and uniforms of Greek soldiers and officers from 1913 and various personal items of fallen fighters. Finally there are paintings, lithographs and photographs of the movements of the Greek army. In the forecourt of the museum, as in Iroos, mountain and field guns used in the battle of Kilkis are exhibited. Of particular interest is the relief map and the audio-visual presentation of the battle. The Military Museum has a small parking area for cars (buses parking area 300 m from the Museum) and has the possibility of access for people with special needs. Admission is free.
