ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF THERA

(tel. 22860 22217)

The Archaeological Museum of Santorini was built in 1960 and replaced the old museum, which had been built in 1902 and which was destroyed in the earthquakes of 1956. It includes collections of sculptures from the Archaic to the Roman era, inscriptions from the same period as well as ceramic works and clay figurines from the geometric to the Hellenistic era. Stand out, the large volcanic stone, the Theraic amphora with geometric decoration excavated in the archaic cemetery of Ancient Thera and dating from the beginning of the 7th century BC, as well as other finds such as amphorae, ceramic objects and ancient kouros.
