The Historical and Folklore Museum of Rethymno was founded in 1973 with the aim of collecting and researching the folklore material of Rethymno. Since 1995, it has been housed in a 17th-century preserved Venetian townhouse at 28-30 Bernardou Street. The two-story building with the inner courtyard impresses mainly with its architectural details. The Museum's collections come from donations and purchases and include textiles and weaving tools, embroidery, lace, ceramics, baskets, metalwork items, coins, costumes, historical relics, etc. There is a room dedicated to traditional crops and the preparation of production of Rethymnon traditional bread as well as a room with traditional professions. The exhibition of the objects has been done in sections, with explanatory texts (Greek and English) photographs, drawings, according to the requirements of modern museology.
