The Chemistry Museum of Chania is a representation of the First Public Chemistry of Greece. It is located on the 2nd floor of the General Chemistry of Chania (El. Venizelou and Char. Trikoupi) and belongs to the Ministry of Finance. The roots of its presence in our city begin in 1895 when the juncture of the necessity of chemical controls, the supervision of public health and the presence of the personality of the chemist Dr. Ioannis Vamvakas gave birth to the establishment of the first Commercial Chemistry in Chania while there was still a Turkish administration. The work of this chemistry and the contribution of its Founder was enormous. Many analyzes were carried out on it, original publications were made, health authorities were supported, malaria was fought, the book "Works of the Chanio Public Chemistry" was published in 1913, which is the first of its kind and was for many years a point of reference for chemicals, the international recognition end. So after many years, in 1962 comes the first reward with the building construction of his representation, in the then newly erected building of the Chemical Services. The collection of instruments and devices is being made with the aim of creating the space where I. Vamvakas worked and acted in a museum form. But it was only in 1997 that the functional restoration of the A.H.X. became a reality. after efforts of the Board of Directors of the Chemical Association of Chania - Rethymno. The purpose of the whole project was and is to save and communicate the history of the place that concerns the Science of Chemistry through the Museum, as well as informing us about its necessity and achievements that supported and support a society every day. In the Museum's 'Guide' it is characteristically written: we wish to connect the past with the present and the future, the feedback of our knowledge using as a springboard the methods and constructions of yesterday...
