The Papagiannis Museum of Contemporary Art was founded and decorated by the sculptor Theodoros Papagiannis. Theodoros Papagiannis studied Sculpture at A.S.K.T. Athens with teacher Yiannis Pappa. He is the Director of the 1st Sculpture Workshop of the University of KaThe Museum is located in the village of Elliniko Ioannina in the Municipality of Katsanohoria. It is hosted in a beautiful building that used to be a school and was built by great Epirotian craftsmen with money from the benefactor Nikolaos Mandelopoulos, who was also from the village of Elliniko. The exhibits of the Museum talk about the history of Epirus. There are tributes per room for bread, the expatriate and the Benefactor, the spiritual man, the school and education, for the famous Epirus builders and masons, for the breeder and the farmer, the elf of the village. The Museum exhibits portraits of important people, but also of many ordinary lay people.
The classroom with the students, the old desks, the teacher and the spectators is particularly moving. The class of learning, as the founder of the Museum calls it. In the forecourt of the Museum impressive sculptures are exhibited, some of which have been made from the rubble of the Polytechnic and are elaborately combined and decorated with various recyclable materials that were found thrown away or were useless.
