TRADITIONAL HOUSE KALOGERIKO

TRADITIONAL HOUSE KALOGERIKO - Thasos

Kalogeriko is housed in a traditional Thassos house dating back to the late 19th century. It belongs to the Municipality of Thassos and is used as a venue for cultural events, exhibitions, lectures etc. The building, made of stone and wood, is of Thracian Macedonian type, two-storey, with a rectangular face. The roof is wooden, covered with slates, and has tall stone chimneys. The exterior doors are double-leaf, wide-opening, with an arched lintel, while an internal wooden staircase leads to the floor where the hall is located with a sachnisia (overhang) and a small wooden balcony. On the first floor, the Thasian house is represented with the onta (reception room), where the mideri, a sofa with a mattress across the length of the room, is located. There are also the chambers with fireplaces and windows without shutters, in which the musandra (or mesandra) is located, a kind of wardrobe, and various built-in cupboards and drawers. Various embroideries, handicrafts, nightgowns, furniture, cooking utensils, a loom, a laundry room with all accessories, iconostasis...etc. A special exhibit is the birth stool that stands out in the bedroom.
