The Museum of Natural History of Rhodes, belongs to the Municipality of Petaloudos and has been operating since 2001 in an Italian building from 1930. It is an important center for environmental research, education and awareness and contributes to the tourism development of the Butterfly Valley habitat. In the showcases of the Museum are exhibited rare butterfly species of the region and the wider Greek area, embalmed birds and animals, minerals and rocks. The Museum has a botanical, entomological laboratory and a library. A butterfly hatchery is kept in the garden, in a special greenhouse, where live butterflies are bred.
