The Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes was founded in 1962, by Andreas Ioannou, a scholar of Neo-Hellenic Painting and Prefect, at the time, of the Dodecanese.
The Art Gallery of Rhodes currently houses one of the most authoritative and representative collections of Greek painting of the 20th century. Most of the Greek painters who created in these nine decades, shaping our contemporary painting, are represented in this collection with characteristic works.
They are works that marked the evolution of the creation of these artists, presented in official exhibitions here and abroad. The collection of the Municipal Gallery includes works by K. Maleas, K. Parthenis, F. Kontoglou, Theofilos, N. Hatzikyriakou - Gikas, Sp. Vassiliou, G. Spyropoulos, G. Gaitis, Fasianou, Kessanli, Chr. Botsoglou, G. Moralis, G. Tsarouhis and many other Greek artists.
