MARITIME MUSEUM OF KASOS - Kasos

It is the Private Collection of the captain and former vice-mayor Mr. Hadjipetros and it is housed in a building of the Association of Kasiots of Rhodes, which was granted to him for 50 years. The exhibits outline the maritime life of modern Greece, from 1850 onwards. Kasos was a great naval power that participated in the revolution of 1821 and was therefore destroyed by the Turks in 1824. It was united with Greece, like the rest of the Dodecanese, in 1948. The Collection includes various exhibits such as paintings, documents from the time of of Italian occupation, photographic material of sailing ships, ship models, nautical instruments, extants.. etc. The Museum is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013.
